Shaligram Stone — Lakshmi Narsimha, Nepal Gandaki River — one of the most sacred naturally occurring objects in the Hindu tradition.

The Shaligram is a fossil stone found in the Gandaki River in Nepal and is considered in Hindu scripture to be a direct, uncarved manifestation of Lord Vishnu — sacred by nature, requiring no consecration. Unlike most devotional objects, a Shaligram arrives already holy. This stone is associated with Lakshmi-Narasimha: the union of Vishnu in his fierce lion-man (Narasimha) avatar with the goddess Lakshmi — representing the meeting of protective power and divine grace.

For devotees, keeping a Shaligram in the home or on an altar is considered to invite the continuous protective presence of Vishnu and the blessings of Lakshmi. Each stone is unique in its natural markings, and no two Shaligrams are identical.
